Mixed-race Eurasian face filters and models are prolific on Chinese social media, but the same preference isn’t given to mixed-race Black and Chinese people, even though they are a growing demographic. In fact, there is a small pocket of Chinese netizens spouting strong nationalistic and anti-Black racist views, which increased after changes were proposed to make it easier for foreigners to gain permanent residency in the country.
