Bernard's idea to buy the building housing several banks emerges when he faces continuous discrimination, and he successfully executes it with the help of Joy, a fellow black businessman. Their success greatly alleviates racial discrimination in Los Angeles, but Bernard's journey faces another hurdle when the son of his previous building's owner accuses him of bias in loan distributions. After complex legal and financial maneuvers, including acquiring another bank to manage risky loans, Bernard is eventually arrested and jailed, sacrificing himself for the black community. Years later, Bernard is released from prison, surprisingly content because unbeknownst to many, his assets had been secretly preserved and grown by Mast, who had previously betrayed him.
