After seven unsuccessful attempts to win a seat in parliament, Mr Farage said his win was “the first step of something that is going to stun all of you”. The victory finally puts the Reform leader inside a political institution he has spent decades railing against and will test his ability to deliver on promises to voters. Speaking after his win, Mr Farage said Reform’s performance in the election so far has been “truly extraordinary”. “There is a massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it,” he said. “My plan is to build a mass national movement over the course of the next few years and hopefully be big enough to challenge the general election properly in 2029.” Earlier, Lee Anderson became Reform UK’s first MP, claiming the seat of Ashfield and kick-starting the party’s major electoral breakthrough.
