How one simple decision from a newly appointed captain… Would change the outcome of this match.. the outcome of the world cup and in some ways, the next 10 years to come… Ms dhoni was appointed the captain of the newly formed t20 Indian cricket team for the inaugural t20 world cup of 2007. Please… for gods sake don’t get out in the group stage… Still in the run up, while figuring out the team chemistry, the new rules were announced There will be 2 group stages and then a knock out semi and finals And most importantly, If a draw occurs there will be a Bowl out, like a penalty shoot in football 5 bowlers from each team… whoever hits more… wins while practicing, the best bowlers in a shootout were…. Sehwag uthappa and harbajan… Yup, an opener a wicket keeper and a spin bowler… 14th September 1st group stage India vs pakistan playing to decide who tops the group.. It’s a draw.. Sehwag from the start was raring to go…he even asked dhoni to bowl first…. But uthapaa on the other hand was a bit nervous… Still he went and asked the captain, ‘bro, I’ve got to bowl.’ And he just said, ‘sure okay, cool.’ And that kind of reinforced my belief that I’m going to hit the stumps,” So from india……we actually had The opener The spinner And the wicketkeeper line up And now comes your answer What was that decision? Its simple actually.. India vs australia and pak vs nz Semi final And finally the india vs pak final and victory… Not only did the young captain, With an untested team, win the world cup, Not only did it cement dhoni’s position as the captain But the experience and confidence gained here laid the foundations of the team that just in a few years would win the odi world cup and the champions trophy… but if… if we didn’t win that bowl out…. Then we wouldn’t top group stage 1 Hence would play against australia in group stage 2 And mostly.. would face new Zealand in the semies The only team to defeat us in the tournament.. We would face them now, in a knock out game…. We may have still won no doubt, But this still remains, a pivotal moment that like domiones could change the course of history Like dominoes, one decision by one preson To stand close to the stumps, Changed indian cricket as we know it….
