In case anyone is interested, here is a trick that works for all two digit numbers: What you want to do is backwards foiling (or LIOFing) It works like this: Say you have 22 x 37 do LIOF, or Lasts, Insides, Outsides, Fronts Lasts: 2x7 = 14. Write down the 4, carry the 1 in your head Then do Insides plus Outsides: 2x3 + 2x7 = 20. Add the carried number and you get 21. So write down the 1 (to the left of the 4 you wrote down), carry the 2 in your head. Fronts: 2x3 = 6. Add the carried number and you get 8. Write that down, and you get the answer as 22 x 37 = 814 |
