| Video Discription | The symptom triad of weakness, fatigue, weight gain, these are the symptoms present in a good number of our population. The weakness and weight gain may be related to each other. Also fatigue is a consequence of weight gain and obesity itself. So many people think that these are the symptoms of hypothyroidism. But many at times when we do the tests for thyroid function tests, it could be normal. So what could be the linking factor? It is because of lack of adequate sleep. If you are not getting adequate sleep at night, and you are not getting 6 – 7 hours of sleep at night, it will not be adequate for you, then fatigue will not be there and weight gain will be part and parcel of sleep deprivation. Inadequate sleep can be the cause of weight gain. Fatigue is the cause of sleep deprivation. Simple things like lifestyle changes can account for the many of the symptoms that we care experiencing. So you need to look out for 4 or 5 things if you are doing correctly. One is if you are sleeping correctly. Sleep may get disturbed if you are anxious or depressed. If you are getting adequate exercise, that is if you are getting 1 hour of walking, that is too less and that can cause fatigue in itself. If you have gained to much weight in itself, that can cause secondary problems like obstructive sleep apnea. Thyroid could be one of the reasons. But when we look at the triad of reasons, it is over on the scale. When obese people do thyroid function tests, the TSH could be elevated. It may not be that there is thyroid dysfunction. |
