They asked me for my driving license, I produced my silver tongue. Into the back of the Garda van, The time of day, they gave me none. They cuffed my hands and locked the door And drove me off from Little Bray. The van it bumped and swung about And stopped out in the Wicklow Way. The engine stopped and in they came. Without a word, they locked the door. Their badges they lay on the bench, Their uniforms fell to the floor. “What station’s this?” I asked them smiling. “No,” said one, “That’s not the plan. A station is too stationary. We prefer the bounce of a Garda van!” We’ve frolicked up in Ballyfermot, Canoodled down in Castletown, At Ennis, we experimented, Never shall we settle down! We’ll travel every inch of Ireland, Enjoy a rest both night and day. They surely know how to police me, The Bean-Guards of Little Bray! |
