The first occurred in early July of 1931 during a father son fishing trip in the Sierra Nevada of California. Specifically, they were going to fish the Stanislaus River inside the Stanislaus National Forest, which in turn isn’t actually very far away from Yosemite National Park. The second occurred in a rural area of California at the end of January in 1938.
