| Video Discription | Mumbai, April 20 (ANI): Officials of Indian Navy who evacuated people from Yemen were felicitated at an official ceremony by Naval Chief, RK Dhowan in Mumbai on Monday (April 20). The last Indian evacuation from Yemen via sea route concluded on Saturday with ships MV Kavaratti and MV Coral carrying 475 evacuees. The air evacuation had concluded on April 09. Dhowan said that a total of 3,074 people including Indians and residents of various other countries had been evacuated by the Indian Navy. The Indian armed forces had launched 'Operation Rahat' to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in strife-torn Yemen. Fighters loyal to Saudi-backed President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi clashed with Iranian-allied Houthi fighters in Aden, the last major foothold in the country of the leader who left Yemen for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. New Delhi had issued a series of warnings this year to Indian nationals to leave Yemen, the last of them shortly before Saudi Arabia launched air strikes against Iranian-allied Houthi militiamen. India evacuated 7,000 citizens from Iraq last year, and nearly 18,000 from Libya in 2011, as fighting swept these nations. |
