The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist or CPN-UML leader Oli has staked claim to form the government after Prachanda lost the vote of confidence on July 12. He scored only 63 votes in favour while 194 lawmakers voted against him. One lawmaker abstained from voting out of a total of 258 lawmakers present in the 275-member parliament. This vote marked Prachanda’s fifth-floor test in the last 1.5 years. Prachanda became PM with CPN-UML's support in December 2022. His ouster followed the withdrawal of support by his allies Oli’s CPN-UML party and Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Nepali Congress or NC.
