SEBI is seeking feedback from all including you and me, on how to introduce this rule effectively. Currently, when shares are sold, they pass through a depository to a clearing corporation, then to an organisation's pool account, and finally to your Demat account. However, this system has risks, as seen in the Karvi scandal of 2019 where securities were misused as collateral for loans, resulting in a Rs 2300 Crore scam of 83000 client’s of Karvi. SEBI aims to address this by proposing a direct transfer of securities to individual Demat accounts, reducing the risk of such scams.
