Win was driving the TWR Rover Vitesse and Allan his privately funded Holden Commodore. With insights from Win, Allan and 'Nifty', Gricey's trusted assistant technician, the races were held in Belgium, Spain and Portugal. The championship was bittersweet for Win. For four weeks he believed he had won it by a single point. "Then, FISA remembered a rule change from the previous January, which stated the worst five results (opposite to the four of 1985) would be dropped from the overall standings.
