The quiet humming was always followed by an explosive attack on their valued warehouses, railway stations, vehicles, and fuel depots, and the enraged top Nazi officials would continually look for the elusive pilots to no avail. These enemies were so feared and hated by the Nazis that an offer was made that anyone who downed one of these pilots would automatically receive the prestigious Iron Cross medal.
