One should try and explore the reason why this sperm counts are less. Most of the times we see that the sperm counts are reduced due to a condition called as varicocele which can be detected with an ultrasound scan of the scrotum. Varicocele can be treated either surgically or medically. In lot of men we see that clinically when the varicocele is evident a surgical correction can help increase the sperm counts. Sometimes we see that the sperm counts are reduced due to hormonal issues. This could be due to a transient reduction in the level of FSH and LH hormones that are secreted by the brain. That's called as a hypo gonadotrophic hypogonadism. This fortunately can be treated with the help of certain injections and tablets that help to increase the levels of a FSH and LH both and we see that the sperm count increases. Whenever the sperm count increases it is with the influence of these medications we take advantage of this time and try to freeze in a couple of semen samples when the sperm count is more and then can be used later on even after stopping the medications because we see that in such men once the medications stopped the sperm count reduces again. Sometimes we also see that the sperm counts are reduced due to ill health especially viral infections. Multivitamins and waiting for a few more months would help and this spermatogenic cycle is usually of 72 days so it's wise to wait for about two to three months to see any improvement in the sperm counts and one should not panic and declare it as reduced sperm counts and indulge into getting ready for an IVF cycle just because one reading of sperm count is low. There can also be instances of reduced sperm count due to conditions like the use of anabolic steroids, gyming and taking injections to build up muscles can sometimes reduce the testosterone levels and therefore reduce the sperm counts. Fortunately the testes can kick back to function with the use of hCG shots and so if the testosterone levels are low taking hCG shots under medical supervision can help boost the sperm count back.
