| Video Discription | Mission Australia’s South East Metro Community Engagement Team facilitated a webinar on the 30th of March 2021 which showcased four projects being delivered by community and mainstream services. All four projects are focussed on improving health services for people with disability. All the projects are funded under the NDIA’s Information, Linkages and Capacity Building Grants Scheme (note: this funding program now sits under the Department of Social Services). The purpose of the webinar was to help provide health professionals and those working in the health sector with information on the some health specific projects which are currently being funded through the ILC program and to provide an opportunity for services to connect, learn from one another and spark ideas of how they can better deliver their own services to ensure they are accessible and inclusive for people with disability. The four presenting organisations were Dietitian’s Australia, Scope, National Disability Services and Down Syndrome Australia. The projects discussed covered a range of themes including capacity building for dietitian’s, enhancing communication between health care professionals and people with disability, improved discharge planning and improving health outcomes for people with down syndrome. A strong and consistent message throughout the presentations focussed on the need to communicate effectively with people with disability and ensure they are part of a co-design or at the fore-front of collaborative processes which seek to develop solutions to the current gaps in mainstream health delivery. The webinar was well attended with over 50 guests dialling in from across the Country from a range of disciplines including dietetics and nutrition, nursing, allied health and more. We also know many health professionals were unable to dial in due to professional demands and timing but have requested a copy of the webinar recording. The South East Metro Community Engagement Team truly hope that many of the conversations generated from the presentations continue outside of the webinar and we see further collaboration and traction in the health care space. We hope to see continued improvements of how health services are developed, delivered and evaluated to ensure all community members have access to health support and feel genuinely heard, respected and empowered when they utilise mainstream health services. |
