| Video Discription | The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, ("CAA") was one of the most controversial steps taken by the NDA-II Government which attracted widespread protests all over the country. This video discusses the important concepts under the Citizenship Act, 1955 and the resultant CAA which provides a cut-off date which is December 31, 2014, to provide citizenship to all non-Muslims who have entered India before this date. This led to two different protests in the country, (i) with respect to omission of Muslims and rationale behind choosing only 3 countries, and (ii) a separate protest in Assam where the CAA violates the provisions of the Assam Accord.
