Japan has a very special relationship with nuclear power. The past has created a unique approach to the use of nuclear energy. Up until 2011, Japan was generating some 30% of electricity from its reactors and this was expected to increase to at least 40% by 2017. Now it needs to import about 90% of its energy which is mostly fossil. *Online Lecture ------------- JICC SEMINAR on Nuclear Power “Lessons from Japan to Estonia” Japan has a decades-long experience in nuclear power. As the energy crisis and concern over environment grows, so does the interest in implementing nuclear energy in many countries domestically. Knowledge is a vital part of making the informed decision, this is the reason Japanese government is committed to share its extensive experience with nuclear newcomer countries like Estonia. JICC is an international cooperation center for nuclear energy development working under Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
