Show Bees Some Love: National Campaign for Bee Action Aimed at Home Depot and Lowes to Remove Bee Killing Neonics from Their Stores. Feb 12th 2014 Bee Swarm Action Outside Of Home Depot (Chicago) - Organic Consumers Association-Chicago (OCA) action as part of a national day of action to protest Home Depot & Lowes garden centers to remove bee killing neonicatinoid pesticides from their stores. After swarming outside Home Depot for an hour and handing out free wildflower seed & flyers to Home depot customers, we went in respectfully to talk to the garden center staff and present them with a Valentines card, "Home Depot - Show Bee's Some Love." But just as staff was about to accept our Valentine, HD manager #1 (angry-manager) told staff to not take our valentine and as well we offered him same. He refused to accept, or 'let us' leave our Valentines card for them, and then demanded us to leave the garden center and store. But then, outside now, store manager #2 shows up and was much more kind and amenable to talk with us (smoothing over our ruffled wings), and took our Valentine. So much Bee Love. We ended the day with a bit of street-theater, bee-mine-love-in and neonic-die-in on the sidewalk. We talked to the store employees just as we arrived, informed them we were here to play nicey-nice, ie not block the doors, etc.. and every one of them, but the one first angry-manager was very nice and supportive of us. Other than the extreme cold and getting tossed from the store by the angry-manager, it was all a very fun pleasant day. And we should also give a shout out to Nikki C. for making the costumes as well to, Dr. Mercola for providing all the a boatload of wildflower seed to give out to HD customers with our flyers.
