| Video Discription | (26 Mar 2014) India's ruling Congress Party unveiled its election manifesto on Wednesday, promising new jobs and a stronger economy in an appeal to its core constituency of poor voters. At a news conference on Wednesday, Congress leaders promised more funds for education, health care and agriculture if the party is voted back into power. India's 814 million eligible voters head to the polls for national elections on 7 April. Congress Party Vice President Rahul Gandhi said his party is determined to protect India's secular character - a clear jab at the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, which is led by Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi. "Modi represents an ideology, an ideology which is exclusionary, the politics of a chosen few, an ideology that pits people against one another. That ideology will hurt the country. Every Congress (Party) member will fight and defeat that ideology," he said. Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi (and Rahul Ghandi's mother) told journalists, "I am quite confident that we will do well. Our people are ready to fight, many have already started the fight, and we will win."
