| Video Discription | Listen, as occupational therapists, we have all been there. There is some great resource, program, provider, device that is NOT COVERED and we think.... hmmm... will my patient go for this? STOP overthinking if your patient can afford the option and START prioritizing your patient's ability to gather information and make an informed decision for her/himself. Truly, as OTs, it is our job to help provide opportunities, resources, and promote independence. So when it comes to driving - YES - it is an out-of-pocket cost. Bu t so is owning a vehicle, and paying for gas, and paying for insurance coverage. We pay for the things we value, so don't let the fact that seeing a specialist is a non-covered service stop you from giving your patients every opportunity they deserve to get back onto the road safety. Listen in as I share my two cents about this and then, please, let me know if you agree or disagree. As occupational therapy practitioners, we need to stop thinking about what is reimbursed and start thinking about what is needed. Stop letting insurance dictate to you how and when you treat someone and treat the individual based on their needs -- not based on what insurance pays for. Sending my best!
