| Video Discription | Raymonde de Laroche, born Elise Raymonde Deroche on August 22, 1882, was a pioneering French aviator and the world's first licensed female pilot. Before her aviation career, she was an actress and used the stage name "Raymonde de Laroche" to maintain her privacy. Her interest in aviation was sparked by the Wright brothers' demonstrations in Paris in 1908. She was a friend of Charles Voisin, an aircraft builder, who initially took her on some short flights. Inspired by these experiences, de Laroche was determined to take control herself. On March 8, 1910, Raymonde de Laroche became the first woman in the world to receive a pilot license when the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), aviation's governing body, issued her license #36. Her achievement marked a significant milestone in aviation history and paved the way for future generations of female pilots. De Laroche's aviation career was marked by her participation in various aviation meetings and her setting of two women's altitude records, as well as a women's distance record. Tragically, her promising career was cut short when she died in an airplane crash at the Le Crotoy aerodrome in northern France on July 18, 1919. Despite her untimely death, Raymonde de Laroche remains a significant figure in aviation history, symbolizing the early contributions of women to the field of aviation.
