With some parts in the Union Territory of Pondicherry in India. Auroville is located 10 km north of Pondicherry. It is also situated and 5 km from the coast of Pondicherry. It would take 20-30 mins via scooter. Scooter rental is most convenient way of travelling in Pondicherry. It was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa Who is known as "the Mother" and designed by architect Roger Anger. Auroville has its origins in the French language. "Aurore" meaning dawn and "Ville" meaning village/city. It is named after Sri Aurobindo (1872–1950). Who was an Indian philosopher, yoga guru, maharishi, poet, and Indian nationalist. Free passes are available at the entrance. There is an information area where one can read through the history of Auroville. Auroville is surrounded with lush green trees. One can enjoy the soothing sound of wind and birds chirping. There are French and Indian cafes available inside. I felt the food price was a bit high, a sandwich costed Rs.200 Matrimandir is the center of attraction here. One can either prefer to walk or take a free shuttle to matrimandir. Matrimandir is a place to meditate for inner peace. We could not visit matrimandir since one need to book slots in advance. Matrimandir is equipped with a solar power. And the area around it is surrounded by manicured gardens. Vehicles are not allowed inside the Auroville. There is a huge parking space outside for both 2/4 wheelers. As of 2021, there are 3305 residents living here. A total of 60 nationalities live here at Auroville. I hope you have enjoyed this short video.
