| Video Discription | Details below ⬇️ How to play FAST but also SOFT? The two are often hard to combine because soft playing usually requires more control. I recommend starting at a louder level first. Make sure that you are able to play the passage with precision at this comfortably loud volume. Then, incrementally decrease the volume. Adjust your tactile approach as necessary. The changes will be quite subtle…but you will get used to automatically adjusting what is needed per volume level. Use the soft pedal with care. Don’t let it “take over” for you - like I did here (notice how I swallowed notes right away at first!). Important tip: Don’t just think of volume. I think it helps to concentrate more on the character of the passage, rather than on volume itself. Ask - WHY are you intending to play this passage soft? Hope that helps!! |
