When Xiaomi unveiled the Poco F1, it took the tech world by storm. Xiaomi always brings smartphones with impeccable specs at the budget price. And the Poco F1 by Xiaomi was one of such devices, which challenges even the so-called flagship killers like the OnePlus 6. And we have tried to explain why this smartphone can pose threats even the $1000 premium flagship in detail in this Pocophone F1 full review.
When we look into the Poco F1 specs, we can barely see the major compromises. The smartphone comes with the 6.18-inch IPS display, which features the Full-HD+ (1080 x 2246 pixels) resolution. Although the Poco F1 display fails to portray the deep blacks and inky colors, it has good viewing angle and appreciable color accuracy. The contents on the screen look sharp and vivid. The phone also has a great amount of brightness. Even on the bright sunny day, one can easily view the contents on the display.
On the performance front, the handset comes with the Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB of RAM alongside. On the storage front, there is 64GB of memory on the board. This storage can be further expanded to 256GB via SD card. However, it will take the SIM2 slot. With the Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6GB of RAM alongside, Poco F1 quite challenges the top-tier flagships like the Huawei P20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, etc. It has also been posing threats to the so-called flagship killer, the OnePlus 6. When we performed the Poco F1 vs OnePlus 6 comparison, we can find the Poco F1 to be neck-to-neck with the OnePlus 6. Oneplus 6 and Poco F1 benchmark does not really have much of a difference. To add more, we did not find any sorts of issue like Poco F1 heating issue.
In the intense gaming session or in the prolonged use, Poco F1 liquid cooling technology comes into play. So it does not heat much. Because of the Poco F1 cooling technology, it tends remain more cooler than the Oneplus 6 even after the intense gaming session. The rise in temperature is included is included in this Poco F1 review video.
We performed the Poco F1 gaming review as well. While playing the high-end games like PUBG, Dead Trigger 2, and Shadow Gun legends, we did not find any lags and stutters. All the games and apps runs smoothly without breaking into sweat. In the direct comparison of the Poco F1 vs Oneplus 6 gaming, we did not find much of a difference.
Talking about the Poco F1 camera, a dual camera setup lies on the back. The camera pair at the back comprises of the 12MP primary camera followed by the 5MP depth sensor. With this camera duo, the phone captures amazing portrait shots with blurred backgrounds. And you can see it yourself in our in-depth Poco F1 camera test. We also compared it potential alongside the OP6. However, in the Poco F1 vs Oneplus 6 camera test, the images shot from the OP6 were better than Poco F1. But since the device just costs $300 over the $540 Oneplus 6, that was understandable.
Now let’s talk about the Poco F1 DRM issue. DRM stands for the digital rights management. The phone comes with the DRM security level L3, which means that the users can only view the videos on the Amazon Prime and Netflix only at the 540p resolution. To view the contents on HD and Full-HD resolution, the phone should have the DRM security level of L1. We can see that issue in many of the phones like the Oppo F9, Vivo V11 Pro, etc. So Poco F1 is put forward as a scapegoat in this case.
On the security front, the smartphone comes with fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature. The fingerprint sensor on the phone is really fast and accurate. The fingerprint scanner unlocks the phone almost instantaneously without any issues. Poco F1 face unlock feature is also very fast. The phone comes with the IR sensor on the notch alongside the front camera. The front camera and IR sensor comes into play while unlocking the phone using this feature. Due to the IR sensor on the phone, the face unlock feature is capable of unlocking the handset even during the low light and pitch dark settings.
And talking about the Poco F1 battery, the handset comes with the humongous 4000mAh battery. So it has been a standout feature among the crowd. When we performed the Poco F1 battery test, we were greatly with its backup. There is also the fast charging feature on the phone. With the Poco F1 quick charging, the device’s battery does not get replenished like the dash charger in the Oneplus 6. When we performed the Poco F1 charging test, the phone took 1 hours and 45 minutes to get it fully done, which was respectable considering the price.
