THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST Hoping to salvage his flailing health care overhaul, President Barack Obama is publicly staking his hopes on the willingness of bipartisan lawmakers to compromise during Thursday''s six-hour health care summit. SOT Barack Obama "I look forward to a good exchange of ideas at the Blair House. I hope everyone comes with a shared desire to solve this challenge." But Republicans are already dismissing the televised summit as little more than political theater. SOT Mitch McConnelll/Senate Minority Leader "We''re happy to be there, but not quite sure what the purpose is." GOP leaders say the health care plan the White House posted online just days before the summit is sign that Obama is ready to go it alone and try to pass the legislation under Senate rules that would bar Republican delaying tactics. Some Democrats seem to be setting the stage for exactly that. SOT Harry Reid "realistically, they should stop crying about reconciliation as if it''s never been done before. It''s done almost every congress and they''re the ones who have used it more than anyone else." Republicans don''t plan to go down without a fight. They''ll use the summit to portray the Democratic plan as too big and too costly - and they''re bringing along some of Obama''s sharpest critics to do so, including his rival from the 2008 presidential campaign, John McCain. Democrats are almost certain to portray the GOP alternatives as flimsy and unworkable. Their message to the American public and to their own party will be that doing nothing is not an option. Unless the meeting produces an unexpected breakthrough, Obama will still have to persuade some Democrats in the House and Senate to support a health care bill _ even if Democrats decide to go it alone.
