Join us: https://bit.ly/3Rz1uCH Preparations for voting in the first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Upper Assam along with other parts of the country is almost complete. In Jorhat, presiding officers left for their respective polling stations with all the documents including EVMs from the playground of the District Government Boys School. Jorhat is also among the much talked about Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam where BJP's sitting MP Tapan Kumar Gogoi will lock horns with INDIA Bloc’s Gaurav Gogoi. Jorhat consists of ten assembly constituencies namely Jorhat, Titabar, Mariani, Tiok, Majuli, Sivasagar, Sonari, Mahmora, Dimou and Nazira. There are a total of 17,18,272 voters of which 8,46,754 are male and 8,71,518 are female. Here 17,178 voters are above the age of 80 years, 115 are over 100-years-old and 12,265 are voters with disabilities. Voting will be carried out in 2,068 polling stations. Similar scenes were also seen in Sonitpur Lok Sabha constituency where 16,32,938 votes cast their mandate on Friday. 1,878 polling stations have been prepared for total polling here which covers areas such as Dhekiajuli, Barchalla, Tezpur, Rangapara, Nadua, Biswanath, Behali (SC), Gohpur, and Bihpuria. Here, a total of 8 candidates are in the fray including Alam Ali Bahujan (Maha Party), Kameswar Swargiary (Voters Party International), Premlal Ganju (INC), Raju Deuri (Bodoland Peoples Front), Ranjit Dutta (BJP), Rinku Roy (Gana Suraksha Party), and Rishiraj Kaundinya (AAP). In the 2019 election, Pallab Lochan Das of the BJP emerged victorious from the constituency with 6,84,166 votes.
