| Video Discription | Paul Relis was a UCSB student when our beaches were fouled by oil in 1969. At 23, he was the founding Executive Director of the Community Environmental Council (CEC). At that time, CEC pioneered recycling, hazardous waste collection, urban gardens, solar energy and programs that are the backbone of today’s sustainability efforts. Paul reminds us that weaning ourselves from oil continues to be the central focus of CEC today, 50 years later. His message is part of #TogetherWeEarthrise Earth Day Live Festival, an event to honor the 50th anniversary of Santa Barbara Earth Day and the Community Environmental Council (#CECSB).
