| Video Discription | https://medicine.missouri.edu/departments/psychiatry/residency The University of Missouri School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency Training Program is a fully accredited four-year program in general psychiatry or which one year may be integrated with a two-year child and adolescent fellowship program. We offer a balanced program with psychotherapy and biological aspects of psychiatry both emphasized from early on in training. Residents receive clinical training on inpatient, outpatient, emergency, consultation-liaison, addictions, geriatrics, and child and adolescent services, as well as in a variety of specialized and elective settings. Our residents develop a wide range of clinical skills which enable them to practice effective psychiatry in a variety of settings. Clinical experience is gained at the University Hospital, Missouri Psychiatric Center, Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, Fulton State Hospital, University of Missouri outpatient psychiatry and a variety of community psychiatry practices. Our Neuromodulation Clinic has a robust teaching program. Residents have the opportunity to train in all the neuromodulation modalities offered. Residents will learn how to use the Thymatron ECT machine and the Magventure Mag Pro R100 TMS device, the only FDA-cleared device capable of delivering the theta burst three-minute treatment as well as the traditional standard 20-minute treatment. Our program also offers research opportunities for residents with these novel treatment modalities. The Residency program is designed to foster the development of well-rounded general psychiatrists, and the program combines a highly structured didactic program with comprehensive clinical and research experience. The department is committed to a quality environment in which our residents can flourish. Residents and attending physicians have continuous one-on-one conversations. The program director meets monthly with the residents in an open session to discuss training and residency needs. Because of the diverse interests of our faculty and the many areas of strength within the department, we are interested in and attract residents with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. Our goal is to nurture the specific interests of each resident and help them reach their ultimate goals and potential in whatever way possible. Whether it be research, clinical subspecialty, education or other interests, we strive to make these dreams a reality for our residents. |
