BJP’s South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri triggered a massive political controversy over his objectionable remarks against BSP’s Dansih Ali. Bidhuri made these remarks during a Lok Sabha debate on Chandrayaan-3 on Thursday night. The remarks, which have now been expunged, went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. While the BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Bidhuri, Ali has called for action to be taken against him.
Before starting the news report on BJP’s South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri, let me first tell you about Ramesh Bidhuri's political journey
The 62-year-old Ramesh Bidhuri, who represents the BJP as a Member of Parliament for South Delhi and secured victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, has been actively involved in politics since his college days.
From 2003 to 2008, Bidhuri served as the vice-president of the Delhi BJP. He also won the Delhi Assembly polls three times until 2014, holding the position of a three-time MLA from Delhi's Tughlaqabad constituency. His 2019 Lok Sabha victory marked his second consecutive win, following his success in the 2014 General Election.
Bidhuri is a commerce graduate and holds a law degree. According to the 2019 data, there were four pending criminal cases against him.
Controversial remarks by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri, representing South Delhi, have once again garnered attention, this time due to his use of communal slurs in Parliament on Thursday, September 21. During the parliamentary session, Bidhuri directed derogatory comments towards BSP MP Danish Ali, including labeling him as a Muslim terrorist, among other offensive statements.
This is not the first time that Bidhuri has been embroiled in a controversy.
As per a report by the Financial Express,
In 2015, Bidhuri triggered a political controversy when five women lawmakers filed complaints with the then Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan against him. These five women MPs, namely Sushmita Dev, Ranjeet Ranjan, Arpita Ghosh, PK Shreemathi and Supriya Sule, alleged that the BJP lawmaker had made sexist remarks in the House.
In 2017, he stirred controversy by invoking Sonia Gandhi's Italian background to criticize the Congress party. During a rally in Mathura, Bidhuri remarked that it was not in line with 'Bhartiya sanskar' (Indian values) to have children and grandchildren within seven months. Bidhuri made these comments in response to the Congress party's criticism of the BJP's 'acche din' (good days) slogan and its perceived failure to fulfill promises.
As per a report by the Siasat Daily,
In 2019, the Delhi Election Commission issued a notice to Ramesh Bidhuri on Thursday, May 9th, for reportedly referring to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as a 'pimp' during a public meeting.
Bidhuri faced accusations of physically assaulting and behaving inappropriately towards party members during a 'Run For Unity' event held on October 31, 2018, in Sangam Vihar within his constituency. This event was organized to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Bidhuri and his supporters were alleged to have attacked and behaved poorly towards party worker Chandan Chaudhary and others during this event. The then Delhi BJP chief, Manoj Tiwari, addressed these allegations in a letter to Bidhuri, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges.
In the letter, Tiwari also pointed out media reports suggesting that Bidhuri's family members and supporters had engaged in clashes with other party workers. Given the gravity of these allegations, Tiwari asked Bidhuri to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him.
Bidhuri was granted 10 days to respond to this letter.
