| Video Discription | While Senior Investigative Reporter Mike Deeson may have retired after 35 years at 10News WTSP (local CBS affiliate in the Tampa Bay area), he will always be a journalist to the core. That was extremely evident during our nearly 40-minute interview for the Ex-TV Newsers series. Mike's career spans nearly 50 years, after getting his start in broadcasting and journalism at age 17. He graduated in 1970 from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, making a few stops along the way before landing at WTSP. To the Tampa Bay area, he is the watchdog who keeps officials accountable and is constantly looking to expose people who think they're above the law or don't have to play by the rules. Mike's investigative reporting has won countless awards, including 12 Emmys and 2015 Florida Journalist of the Year from The Society of Professional Journalists. During this nearly 40-minute interview, Mike reflects on the history of television news, many technological advances he's experienced firsthand, the newsgathering and research process for an investigative journalist, the future of TV, and his own unretirement. This TV vet isn't lounging around on a Florida beach - he's working on multiple documentaries and a book titled "Bad News for You is Good News for Me." Because Mike's book promises to be very candid, he wanted to wait to publish it until he was officially out of the media industry. Mike, an avid technology user, now uses social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube as a sounding board for stories and commentary. In fact, he produces a regular segment called "If I Were King" voicing his opinion on various issues.
