| Video Discription | On June 30, 2019, there were two NYC Gay Pride marches. The big old march had a large police presence, sidewalk barriers, and corporate sponsors. The new smaller march was more open, with fewer police, and with no “rainbow capitalism.” The smaller march followed the route of the first pride march of June 28, 1970 - from the Stonewall Inn to the Great Lawn of Central Park. I marched in Reclaim Pride March from The Stonewall Inn to The Great Lawn in Central Park. I recorded the march with my camcorder. I wanted an objective view of the people themselves, and of their expressions. I didn’t want to narrate or explain; I just wanted to capture the experience and the people’s own words. I didn’t use narration to tell my audience what to think, or music to tell my audience what to feel. I already had footage I’d shot at the big, corporate Gay Pride Parade, and I used a little bit of that footage in my edit to set the context, and to contrast the two parades. The transgender women at Stonewall were pushed out of the gay rights movement. Now they are getting a statue in New York. The monument honoring Marsha P.
