It was expanded and fortified over the centuries and became one of the most powerful and impregnable castles on the Middle Rhine. It survived many sieges, including the Thirty Years’ War and the War of the Palatine Succession, until it was blown up by French troops in 1,797. In this video, you’ll get to explore the remains of this magnificent fortress, which covers an area of 16,000 square meters. You’ll walk through the main gate, the clock tower, the Darmstadt building, and the medieval courtyard. You’ll also enjoy stunning views of the Rhine Valley, with its rolling hills, vineyards, and picturesque villages. The Rhine Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most scenic and culturally rich regions in Germany.
