38% of Farmers and Ranchers Listen to Rural Radio on the Platform
(NASHVILLE — April 18, 2016) Rural Radio Channel 147 celebrated SiriusXM’s announcement that it now has more than 30 Million subscribers. Rural Radio Channel 147 has grown tremendously with SiriusXM Radio over the past two and half years, with 38% of farmers and ranchers tuning into the platform, continuing a three year growth trend. As the nation’s first and only national rural and agriculture focused radio station, the addition of 465,000 new subscribers means more people will have access to the agricultural programming, commodities, and marketing info they need to do their jobs. Farmers and ranchers are heavy users of SiriusXM with 53% of all U.S. farmers who own 1,000+ acres and 55% of large row crop farmers and livestock producers subscribing to the platform.
“This is a major accomplishment for rural Americans who need access to our programming. We’re so proud to have partnered with SiriusXM Radio for Rural Radio,” stated Patrick Gottsch, Founder & President of Rural Media Group. “Rural is a way of life, and Rural Radio means listeners can tune into it from anywhere at any time. SiriusXM's unparalleled programming and easy-to-use technology has been embraced by rural consumers in their cars, pickups, tractors and combines throughout North America.”
"SiriusXM has grown from a pioneering startup to a media powerhouse in less than fifteen years of service by providing listeners with the best audio entertainment available," said Jim Meyer, Chief Executive Officer, SiriusXM.
Meyer went on to say, "Our exclusive, unmatched content and ease of use has led us to this important subscriber milestone. I'd like to thank our dedicated employees, our valuable content creators and brands, our automotive distributors, and most of all our paying subscribers for their contribution to our success."
“I know from personal experience growing up on a farm in the central Great Plains, terrestrial radio stations often reduce power or change patterns at different times of the day or night, causing listeners to lose their signal – often at times when it is most urgently needed. Our coverage is consistent all over of North America – no matter what time of day or what kind of weather conditions exist – people in rural areas can rely on us for critical information regarding their markets, weather, and breaking news,” says Marlin Bohling, Markets Editor for Rural Radio. “We don’t have little one or two-minute snippets of ag updates. We deliver tons of long format ag information. It’s a huge responsibility, but one that all of us at RFD-TV and Rural Radio shoulder with the deepest respect for the listener whose very livelihood could depend on the information that we can provide to them.”
Rural Radio has the strongest programming line-up of any rural focused radio station, providing a simulcast of the “Market Day Report” and agricultural programs such as “Commodity Wrap” with Marlin Bohling, “FFA Today,” “AgPhD,” and “Rural America Live.” Western Sports is also a major focus with “Western Sports Roundup,” live coverage of PBR and PRCA events, and a broadcast partnership with the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) Pro Tour. In addition, the programming lineup includes “Marty Stuart’s American Odyssey,” “Outside the Barrel” with Flint Rasmussen, and “Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.”
“We’ve done a lot of things and been a lot of places with Rural Radio Channel 147 on SiriusXM. When you launch something like that and make it grow, you can reach more people,” said Steve Kenyon, longtime rodeo pro and host of “Western Sports Roundup.” “Rural Radio has created a unique opportunity, both through “Western Sports Roundup” and our live rodeo broadcasts, to touch an audience that's always wanted more coverage of Western sports. We are helping to create a new avenue for the fans to hear their favorite events like never before.”
