| Video Discription | Sometimes I get questions from both non-Catholics and Catholics about the scapular I wear. It is an example of a sacramental, and like any sacramental, a scapular does not offer magical protection. It is not a good luck charm. However, a scapular can be spiritually powerful, because sacramentals symbolize holiness and should be blessed, and in turn prepare us to receive graces. Sacramentals should not be confused with sacraments. The sacraments were instituted by Jesus, while most sacramentals were instituted by the Church. Sacraments give grace themselves, but sacramentals do not. However, sacramentals can encourage holy behavior and are made effective through loving God, praying, and sorrow for sin. Think of sacramentals as another tool to help you on the path to holiness.
