Arraignment is a formal reading of a criminal complaint in the presence of the defendant to inform the defendant of the charges against him or her. After the arraignment the next thing that happens is that the attorney sets a settlement conference or a readiness hearing, you will hear. Once we get the reports of the case, we're going to sit down and we're going to talk about what are the strengths and the weaknesses in the case. I'll have some questions for you and I'll be using those answers and your explanation in the readiness hearing. A readiness hearing is an informal hearing or settlement conference, that allows me to talk to the prosecutor and sometimes to the judge about really what might have been the impudence, what might have started that chain of events that lead to the arrest. Very important, a judge is going to look at that and determining how they feel about the case.
