You might have heard by now about Seongsu, the neighborhood that has become a hipster paradise in recent years. It hasn't always been the case. Decades ago, this neighborhood was filled with small and medium-sized factories. Self-made shoe factories were also significant, but for macroeconomic reasons, factories (and, therefore, the hood) declined. Until around 2010, artists and entrepreneurs flocked into the area and reinvented many old factories into new cafes, restaurants, studios, and whatnot. The neighborhood is called the Brooklyn of Korea, and I want to find out whether that’s true.
