| Video Discription | In this video we explore the question of What is an EAS route? EAS stands for Essential Air Service. The Essential Air Service (EAS) is a program implemented by the United States government to ensure that smaller and remote communities maintain access to air transportation services. The program was established following the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, which removed government regulations from the airline industry. We were onboard Contour Airlines inaugural flight on February 1, 2024 from Vernal, Utah to Phoenix, Arizona. Vernal was previously served by Skywest operating as United Express and operated flights to and from Vernal from Denver. Colorado. Hop on board to see what is like flying Contour Airlines and learn why the Essential Air Service is essential to these smaller communities. Contour Airlines is based out of Smyrna, TN and operates numerous Essential Air Service routes. According to the 2020 census Vernal, Utah had a population of just over 10,000 residents. Vernal is associated with the discovery of numerous Dinosaur fossils. When exploring Vernal you can see numerous Dinosaur statues often painted in the store's color it is outside of.
