Jawhar is a quaint hill station located in and surrounded by lush majestic Sahyadri mountain ranges , known as Mahabaleshwar of Thane. Earlier it was under Thane district of Maharashtra but now comes in the newly-made Palghar district. A tranquil getaway from the city's hustle-bustle, Jawhar is a comparatively less explored and untouched hill station in Maharashtra. With an abundance of the scenic beauty of verdant valleys, stunning mountains, deep woods, cascading waterfalls, accompanied by a pleasant climate all year round make this small town a true nature retreat. Jawhar was ruled by the Mukne dynasty and served as camping point for Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his army en route Surat. The Shirpamal is a place of historical importance. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had stayed here over-night, en route to plunder Surat. They set up camp near the princely state of Jawhar and met the Koli ruler Vikramshah Mukne of Jawhar. Together they invaded Surat. Shirpamal was the meeting place of Shivaji and Vikramshah and has since become a historical monument. Chhatrapati Shivali Maharaj Visited Shirpamal at Jawhar on 31 December 1664. This point was developed by Advocate R.P. Mukne, President of Jawhar Municipal Council in 1995. It is located at the pinnacle of the highest hill so that a watch could be kept on the enemy movements and also to view the complete valley vibrating with the natural beauty. Reaching the shirpamal is by itself an enjoyable and thrilling experience. The scenic, enthralling location of shirpamal draws tourists from far and wide. The Jai Vilas Palace: The Jai Vilas Palace is a historic tourist attraction in Jawhar. This neoclassical-style palace was built by Raja Yashwant Rao Mukane. This palace is also known as Raj Bari and used to be a residential palace of the Mukne royal family. Built on a hill top, surrounded by thick forest and cashew plantations. This palace is a master piece of architecture with blend of Western and Indian styles of architecture in majestic pink stones. The interiors of this palace display the rich culture and lifestyle of tribal kings of Mukne family. The palace is surrounded by a garden with a dense forest like foliage, having trees of Cashew everywhere.
