| Video Discription | Hey Gamer, let’s take a look at Cityscapes: Sim Builder for Apple Arcade. The developer on this one is Playscale which has a lot of games in the App Store that kinda, to me, look like shovelware. So let’s see if Cityscapes has a solid foundation. It’s inevitable, any city sim out there is going to have the question asked… is it as good as Sim City. Stay ‘til the end to find out…. I’m just kidding, I’ll tell you now. The answer is… sorta. I guess it just depends on what you’re looking for… can you take an empty piece of land, build an infrastructure of roads, homes for residents, factories for them to work in, and adjust your utilities as your city grows? Then yes, Cityscapes checks all of those boxes. I would just say that it simplifies a bit more than Sim City, which is fine if you don’t want to necessarily have an engineering masters to play the game. Cityscapes plays just like you would think a city sim should, I even liked the simplistic way to build the roads. There are some corners cut, like with the actual residents, they’re 2D, but it’s still fun to watch them have their little parades and riots. I think these are food trucks, but they look a lot like dump trucks. After you play for a bit, your city gets more and more complex, you get access to new services like water utilities, fire departments, and school systems. The goal in your first city is to keep hitting resident and revenue milestones to unlock more services to keep your residents safe and happy. That’s when the chaos starts to kick in and you find yourself jumping from one side of the city to the next trying to upgrade a wind turbine or add more shopping options. It doesn’t help that every now and then the residents try to grab your attention with a weird joke. Can’t you see that I’m running a city here?! I honestly haven’t played too much Sim City in my time so I don’t know if this is common, but there’s this mechanic in Cityscapes where you can merge two buildings together for a better one. It used the second building as “fuel” and then empties that lot when the merge happens. I didn’t even notice that was happening until I saw all of this empty area of my city that I swore that I just built up. I spent most of my time playing Cityscapes on my iPad Pro 2nd gen. It does work with the pencil, but it’s built better for touch to rotate and scale your view. Speaking of view, my biggest gripe with the game was that on the iPad, I could only zoom out far enough to see about a quarter of my city at a time. So I had to constantly swipe around and I would miss something happening on one side while I was focused on the other. On the mac version, you could zoom out a little further, but not all the way. I really hope that they add some functionality to be able to see my city as a whole. That really helps when you're surveying your power grid and your utilities. So let’s get to my rating, I’m going to give Cityscapes: Sim Builder a 3.5. It’s actually a fun game that you can get lost in if you look past the rough edges.
