The “problem of mind” simply stated is this: Thought is recognised as seemingly separating us from a deeper, freer, reality. “Me-centred” thought is painful. The thinker is recognised to be only a thought. Advaita Vedanta and Buddhism and have long recognised this “problem of the mind.” And so have developed methods and practices to overcome, to even extinguish, the thinking mind and the thinking self. The Buddhist Path: Mindfulness and Meditation Buddhism presents a thoughtful and structured pathway designed to quiet the incessant chatter of the restless mind. Buddhist practices are deeply rooted in a methodical and intentional path toward achieving inner peace and mental clarity. This requires a conscious effort to immerse oneself completely in whatever activity is at hand, whether it’s a simple daily task or a complex emotional experience, doing so without succumbing to judgement or allowing distractions to take hold. It encourages one to recognise the position of the observer as being always already prior to any perception, feeling, or thought. I am not what is perceived; I am the observer of perceptions.
