| Video Discription | Steffen Fetzner was a member of the German National Table Tennis Team in the 80s and 90s. The 1989 World Doubles Champion (with Jörg Rosskopf) played a style that was perhaps ten years ahead of its time. He was one of the earliest proponents of the fast, close to the table attack game, which earned him the nickname "Speedy”. His first attack ball was relatively early after the bounce, particularly compared with other players of that time. A close analysis of his technique shows him to have had much more influence on the modern players - directly or indirectly - than many of his contemporaries. His super efficient strokes, impeccable timing and fast, springy footwork made him dangerous to anyone who didn't succeed in breaking his rhythm. At one point or another, he defeated most top players of that period. |
