But, in a separate ruling, the state's supreme court justices are allowing the issue to be put to voters in November for a proposed constitutional amendment. Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court, in its first abortion-related case since the overturning of Roe, appears skeptical of a nationwide ban on mifepristone, a drug used for medical abortions. Interpreting the Constitution for modern America is of course the divisive legal dilemma of the times, and retired Supreme Court justice Stephen Breyer tackles it head-on in his new book “Reading the Constitution,” which he speaks about with Walter Isaacson.
