| Video Discription | The Madras High Court on Tuesday refused to allow the reopening of Sterlite copper smelting plant in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi, which has remained closed since April 2018. ET Now's Mubina Kapasi reports, Thoothukudi plant is the largest copper producing plant for India. Almost half of India's copper used to come from this plant 4000 tonnes. In May 2018, the order was pronounced for the shutdown by the state government. The protests happened on the account of environmental hazards which the plant was creating for the residence of Thoothukudi. Tamil Nadu's State Pollution board has rejected its application for consent to operate.
