| Video Discription | Tobacco thrips Thrips parvispinus (Karny) is a new increasing pest in Dutch ornamentals. Predatory mites, which normally form the basis of integrated control schemes, are not effective enough against the new thrips species in greenhouse crops. At a Ficus grower, different release strategies were tested. If Thrips parvispinus numbers on plants were reduced by two to ten in presence of the tested beneficials compared to untreated plots. Nor Amblyseius swirskii, Neoseiulus cucumeris, Chrysoperla carnea, Orius laevigatus nor Franklinothrips vespiformis could control the pest sufficiently, leaving the grower no other choice than to require pesticides. |
