| Video Discription | What is stop-out in forex? Simply put, a stop-out means there are not enough funds on a trader’s account to maintain open positions. Upon reaching this point, the broker starts automatically shutting them. The definition of a stop-out is closely tied to those of leveraging and margin trading. Forex traders do not have to pay the entire cost of a market position. Instead, they can borrow a certain portion of the required capital from their broker. So a stop-out is meant to try and stop one’s balance from going negative, and all the losses occur at the expense of the trader. You have a $5,000 account with a broker who has set the margin call at 100%, and stop-out level at 50%. You open a trade using a $1,000 margin. A margin call would occur when your equity falls down to $1000, that is, reaches 100% of the $1,000 margin the broker granted you. Your loss, in this case, would equal $4000. A stop-out will occur if your loss on the trade reaches $4,500, or 50% of the $1,000 margin you used. Calculate the stop-out level yourself or utilize the respective feature on the MetaTrader 4, MT5, or FXOpen' s own TickTrader trading terminals. A stop-out is a situation traders fear the most.
