| Video Discription | Ladies and Gentlemen, dear colleagues. Warmest greetings from Bern. Bern, Switzerland, is the next host city of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy 2020. Bern is the capital and the political centre of Switzerland. All Swiss citizens are called to the polls four times a year to vote on federal issues. These are around 15 votes per year on federal level. But we also vote on the level of the province, the “canton”, and on the level of the city. We have direct democracy on all three levels. Aside from that, we have a large pool of instruments of participation. Direct democracy and participation are maybe the reasons why Switzerland and Berne are considered the most peaceful places in the world. Why don’t you come and see for yourself.
