| Video Discription | The development of cities is always accompanied by contradictions, integration, inheritance and change, especially those cities with a long history and civilization inheritance. Today, with the rapid changes, how should we find a balance between creating a more modern urban life and protecting the traces of urban history and civilization? This is a question worth pondering. Speaker Chien Chung Pei shared his different ideas and practices on urban inheritance and renewal with three super cities with great history, New York, Paris and Beijing, and expressed his attitude and suggestions. Prior to establishing an independent office, Chien Chung Pei spent the first 20 years of his professional career working with his father, I.M.Pei, and contributing to many of I.M.Pei & Partners' most celebrated projects, including the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.(1978), the Grand Louvre in Paris(Associate Partner for Design + Administration,1992). and the West Wing extension and renovation of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts(Designer-in-Charge,1981,1986). He was also Project Architect and Designer-in-Charge for Fragrant Hill Hotel in Beijing(1983) and for the 1,000,000-square-foot expansion of Mount Sinai Medical Center(1989)...Chien Chung Pei earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Physics from Harvard college in 1968 and graduated in 1972 from the Harvard Graduate School of Design with a Master's Degree in Architecture.
