DERREN JOSEPH
How does, and, again, you cover this in, in your presentation as well?
DAMIEN:
Yeah. We, we covered what I would say Derren just, and what's always, yeah. What people sometimes don't realize is it's actually a self-assessed process. So it's not like the tax office tells you, this is where your tax Resident it's up to you. Right. Essentially to self-assess. And what, obviously happens in practice is you do it in conjunction, which is, which are accountants and your tax advisor as to where you are tax Resident. So we, we would have liked the Irish authorities would have for obviously some of our higher earning taxpayers that are, you know, Irish citizens that are with that, that has a, a department that would monitor their movements. So if, if it is, if it is a case that someone would quite significant levels of income and means they would generally maintain some sort of travel record as to where they spend their days over the course of a year. And that's typically the type of evidence that would be required in the event of a query raised by the tax office. So you would typically Excel spreadsheet, but it's, it's a self it's declaration process on your tax return. There's a sequence of questions that your tax advisor will answer on your behalf. One of those being, you know, are you, Resident, in the, in the, in the current year, same with, are you an early Resident and are you an Irish domicile? If it's a case you're not an Irish domicile, you have to, you have to declare where you are a national, and if it's a case you're not actually a, a tax Resident in Ireland, Ireland, you now have to declare where you are actually a tax Resident and what your local tax reference number is in that jurisdiction if you're filing an Irish tax return. So it has become a lot more comprehensive over the years. The extent of the information that's required on the annual tax return filing in Ireland.
DERREN JOSEPH:
Yeah. Okay. So this was the following question, which was around, how does someone register as being non-domiciled?
DAMIEN:
It's the very same process. So in practice, what you do is you take the, or you say no on the, on the tax return, and that's the extent of it. And it's only then if it's a case down the road, if something happens in the tax office, you know, profile you or get information on your circumstances and decide to, to, to query this or challenge you on it, that you get into a whole sort of tobacco then is to try to substantiate the declaration that you've made on your tax return about your domicile status.
