| Video Discription | The Teesta River is a non-navigable and trans-boundary water resource. This River flows through three states in two countries. Directly and indirectly more than 20 million people in Bangladesh are highly dependent on its use for domestic and agricultural consumptions. But Bangladesh has seen water levels in the Teesta drop dramatically in recent years during the dry season, due to the construction of dams and barrages by India and irrigation canals upstream violating the right of the River to flow. After failing to sign a water-sharing agreement with India, Bangladesh has received support from China for an engineering scheme on the Teesta. Hence it is unclear how environmentally sustainable the project would be. This interweaved connection of water, food systems, climate change, governance and regional disputes are consecutively impacting people’s rights. And through this documentary ActionAid Bangladesh tried to explain why it is crucial to discuss and find solutions to this problem resulting from inept water governance. #TeestaRiver #RiverRights #WaterManagement #Teesta #WaterGovernance |
