| Video Discription | Nādabhṛṅga takes great pleasure in celebrating the 92nd birth anniversary of the genius vocalist Mahavidwan Sri S Kalyanaraman (2nd July 1930 - 9th January 1994), by bringing you from the archives a scintillating musical feast. Sri Kalyanaraman was a unique path breaker, creating musical trends that have since been adopted by several musicians of subsequent generations. Though he was greatly influenced by his equally brilliant guru, Mahavidwan Sri G N Balasubramaniam, he forged a deeply innovative and individualistic style, that continues to remain greatly adored by fans and musicians to this day. His handling of vivādi rāga-s, as well as several rare rāga-s, coupled with his unique brand of extra crisp bṛkkā phrases, made his elaborations exceptionally delectable. He could imbue even seemingly limited rāga-s with a body and depth that belied their structural simplicity. His music was a product of his extremely fertile imagination, replete with a rich sense of aesthetic virtue. This concert recording from the archives, stands testimony to the colossal music that was Sri S Kalyanaraman.
